Macy, the cat.
This is my cat Macy - she has been my very best friend for 5 years. She has never complained about me moving her every September for the past 5 years, she has never made a comment about some of the cockamany friends I have had over this time. Believe it or not she is always excited to see me when I come home even when I have not called her for 3 days (I do call my her and leave messages). She knows when I am sad cause she licks my tears and every night she knows exactly when to call it a night as she walks about 5 steps behind me to crawl into bed. Not to mention -- up until August she has NOT liked one of the men I have dated since 2001. I know this because she would eat their shoe laces or chew on their thongs. (I should have listened to my cat) HOWEVER...
I read recently in a book about Karma, that people sometimes place to much emotional emphasis on their pets and not those closest to them. That it is unhealthy to give more emotion and time to animals - because people have a tendency to treat their pets better than those people closest.
For instance - we tend to be more forgiving, more unconditional, more supportive, more timely with our responsibilities and more affectionate to our pets than people. While I understand that my cat will not be on this earth forever - I do think had it not been for my cat ---- I would not have learned those invaluable lessons of love's journey.
It's tough to be all things to all people and what I have learned is, be all that you can to yourself and the overflow will reach those that are closest. It's really up to others to position themselves as close as the cat.
